Already Decided on Colocation Services?

If you’ve already decided that your company would be better served by outsourcing your data centre, it’s time to start looking at colocation providers. Choosing a firm to house our servers is something that most companies do only one or twice, so few employees may have any experience with recognizing a reliable colocation facility.

All colocation centers should have a highly trained technical staff available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Any problems or upgrades should be attended to promptly, as any delays effect the business that has their servers housed at the data centre. This is an important factor to consider when selecting a facility for your servers as numerous problems that cause end users not to be able to access your companies server will reflect on your company, who may have no control over the situation.

A colocation center should also be secure both from security threats and natural disasters. Most data centers have a wide range of security measures in place, from biometric entrances to security patrols, but it is always wise to ask exactly how your server is protected.

Protection from natural disasters such as tornadoes and earthquakes is also important. During natural disasters, the power supply is typically interrupted. Make sure the data centre has adequate back-up systems in place and they are prepared to turn them on at a moments notice.
